Fall is here and in full swing! Unlike other seasons, however, fall tends to come and go much faster. Now is the time to enjoy the season while it’s still here, and with fall comes a wide variety of fantastic art projects that you can do with your child at home. In this blog, we will look at some simple but fun art projects that you can do with your child at home to help them get into the spirit of this wonderful and colorful season.
Painting With Leaves
One of the best parts of fall is watching the leaves change from green to gorgeous shades of yellow, red, orange, and brown. One of the best ways to appreciate this is to take your child out to pick out a handful of their favorite leaves to use for painting later. Have them pick leaves of varying shapes and sizes, with different textures on them. Once they’re done making their selections, bring them inside and using non toxic paint, let your child dip the leaves in different colors and press them onto paper, leaving a colorful and unique impression on the paper once removed. If you really want to get into the spirit of it, select colors of
paint that are more fall appropriate, and their creation can become a seasonal decoration at your home.
Leaf Rubbings
Another way to make art with leaves that’s a little less messy is to use crayons to create a leaf rubbing. Using the same method as before, go out with your child and have them select their favorite leaves, having them play close attention to the texture of each leaf. When you’re finished, have them come back inside and use crayons. Place the leaves underneath sheets of paper and have them color the other side of the sheet, making a colorful impression of each leaf’s unique design and texture. Much like the paintings, these, too can become a fantastic seasonal addition to your home’s decor.
Watercolor Leaf Art
Sometimes leaves themselves are gorgeous on their own that they deserve to be put on display. Go out into the yard and help your child find some of the best and most beautiful looking leaves. After bringing them inside, allow them to dry off. After this, begin to glue them down onto sheets of paper, and applying a clear coat of Mod Podge or a similar product. Once dried, your child can watercolor over them, creating a gorgeous wash of colors to serve as the perfect backdrop for these gorgeous leaves.
Those are just a few quick and fun ideas of fall activities that you can do with your child at home.
